  • Hungarian work is the project of the month for July at Rubio Monocoat: the renovation of the floor

We are extremely proud of the fact that in such a short time after the start of distribution in Hungary, we have managed to get Rubio Monocoat in the spotlight. In July 2022, our report on the renovation of the Opera House was chosen by the manufacturer as the project of the month, so our news was able to reach 82 countries around the world, which makes us just as happy in the Hungarian context as it does in representing the brand. Because we know that Rubio is the best choice when it comes to wood surface treatment, we boldly take on such ambitious and important challenges as oiling the floor of the well-known Budapest Opera House. A floor renovation in the Hungarian Opera House? That calls for Rubio Monocoat! The Hungarian State Opera House was built in 1884 and was in urgent need of renovation in 2016. The Swedish floor in the impressive Auditorium was treated with Oil Plus 2C, giving it a quality protection. In addition, the original colour was reinstated. The restoration Since its construction in 1884, Budapest's stately opera house has had two major renovations: in 1912 and in the early 1980s. Over the years, some minor works were also carried out, but by the end of 2016 it was time for a major restoration. The works lasted until March 2022 and provided better acoustics, more modern electrical systems (including a fire alarm), changing rooms and rehearsal rooms for musicians, ... The Swedish floor in the Auditorium was also thoroughly renovated. Floor treatment with Rubio Monocoat The oak elements in the Auditorium were treated with Oil Plus 2C. This way, the Swedish floors, tongue-and-groove wooden floors and inlaid elements get an optimal protection that will stand the test of time. To maintain the floor, they will clean the wood with our Universal Soap. If the surface needs an upgrade later, our Universal Maintenance Oil will be used. Colour was also very important in this project. The intention was to restore as many original elements as possible. The original colour was chosen to match the colours of the room, upholstery, murals and decorative elements, but it had faded. Since this floor can be clearly seen from the seats above, it was therefore very important that the colour match the original shade as closely as possible. Rubio Monocoat therefore developed a customised colour for the restoration of this project. Tip of the month: choose the right colour Do you want the perfect colour for your project? First, put a sample on a piece of identical sanded wood to see the result. That way you can see if your colour matches. In addition, the Oil Plus 2C range includes 40 standard colours. You can mix these colours to find the ideal colour for your project. Haven't found the right colour yet? Then you can work with a pre-treatment such as Precolor Easy or Pre-Aging, or contact our colour laboratory for a unique, customised colour. • Durable UV protection for wood: UV Stop, not just for outdoor wood surfaces

In the summer season, how can we provide our wood surfaces with optimal UV protection? What good is a strong UV-resistant wood preservative? Do only outdoor wood or indoor wood surfaces need this special wood protection? Is the same UV protection for all types of wood ideal? When and how can we provide UV protection to our wood surfaces? Is there a cost-effective procedure for this that is really worth the time, energy and, last but not least, money invested? Does having effective UV protection change the look and color of the wood surface? These questions can quite rightly arise in connection with the UV resistance of both our indoor and outdoor wood surfaces, whether it is new or already treated wood. In this blog post, we try to shed light on all of this. Tree protection - against what? Why do we need the right wood preservative for outdoor wood surfaces? Wooden structures, wooden furniture, wooden fences, cladding, pergolas and facades placed outdoors, in the yard, on the terrace and in the garden are exposed to the elements. They are practically constantly exposed to them in the form of some harmful physical effect or heat or moisture, as in most cases they are either baked by the sun or soaked by the rain. We have already mentioned the importance of the water-repellent effect of wood preservatives in connection with our indoor and outdoor wood oil, as both of them make the treated wood surfaces very water-repellent. In addition, by the fact that our chosen wood preservative drains the water, we also help to prevent dirt from sticking to the surfaces, as dust and dirt molecules can also leave with the drop-down water droplets. Thus, there is a kind of self-cleaning effect, which reduces the chances of microorganisms (eg molds) settling. In connection with Rubio WoodCream, we also talked about the air permeability of this wood paint, which helps the wood to retain its own control, thus retaining its moisture content and natural appearance for a long time. The invisible enemy, or the harmful effects of UV radiation on wood What has been little talked about so far, though one of the most annoying environmental factors, is UV radiation. Under the influence of UV rays on wood surfaces, wood materials gradually lose their lignin content. (Wood species with a higher tannin content are the earliest.) As the lignin is emptied, the wood begins to dry out and then crack. Then, with moisture reaching the wood, whether it is rain or irrigation water, possibly natural water, harmful fungi settle more easily in the cracks and the wood starts to rot. On the other hand, due to the oxidation processes involved in the disappearance of lignin, the wood becomes discolored. Light, softwood species such as e.g. the pines will turn yellow, and the darker hardwoods will be even darker. So soon a piece of discolored, rotten wood from our initially aesthetic and natural-looking wooden structure will remain, which is not a very nice sight. To avoid this, you should carefully consider choosing the right surface treatment agent. Moreover, it is worth noting that not only our outdoor wood surfaces are exposed to UV rays, but also those indoor wood surfaces that are regularly exposed to sunlight, e.g. a living room floor with large windows is just as UV-protected as an outdoor patio. Rubio Monocoat UV STOP - time-resistant UV protection As we have become accustomed to, the Rubio Lab is always ready to solve burning problems, so we already have a wood preservative developed against the harmful effects of UV radiation. Rubio Monocoat UV Stop is a water-based preparation that must be applied to polished but untreated wood surfaces before oiling. As described above, wood species of different hardness show the effects of harmful UV rays differently, which is why they need a different kind of protection. Therefore, RMC UV STOP is also available in two versions. The UV Stop / Softwood version is specifically designed for light, yellowing soft woods, while the UV Stop / Banner is suitable for harder woods, as it does not significantly affect their appearance or color due to its transparency, so it hardly darkens already dark woods, such as oak or walnut. In addition, this product contains 0% VOC, so it is solvent-free, making it completely safe for our environment as well as for users. It is suitable for manual application, whether in industrial conditions or for private use. The use of materials depends on several factors that significantly affect how much of the product we will need. Such e.g. wood density; the softer the wood, the more consumption is expected. We also have to take into account the moisture content of the wood, the ambient temperature and the way the wood is prepared. In the case of softwoods we will be able to treat approximately 15-20 m² with 1 liter of UV STOP, in the case of hardwoods it can be up to 20-30 m². How to use UV STOP? RMC is a UV STOP pretreatment agent, so we will need to use it in the preparatory phase of wood surface treatment. If you want to use wood that has already received a surface treatment, you must first remove all traces of previous treatments. In the case of a new wood surface, it is enough to properly prepare the wood by planing and sanding, and then if you want to achieve a really nice result, it is worth cleaning the surface from dust molecules with RMC Cleaner. The UV STOP can then be applied with an HWP spray gun, brush, roller or cloth, depending on the wood surface and how we like to work. The drying time is normally 2-3 hours, but in summer up to 30 minutes is enough for it. You can then apply the selected Rubio Moncoat wood oil, either the Oil Plus 2C indoor version or the Hybrid Wood Protector outdoor version.

  • Outdoor wood surface treatment: oil vs. wood paint? Which one should I choose?

Fences, pergolas, facades, carports, terrace coverings, garden furniture, flower boxes… and we could list how much more beautiful we have the opportunity to make our yard and garden natural and homely with wooden elements. In addition to the familiar, but by no means the most effective, choices (such as glossy, plastic-effect thick glazes, shabby wood paints that crackle off after a short time), we now have countless options to save ourselves hours of sanding and poisoning. Not to mention when we promise ourselves for a long time that next spring we will have to grind and repaint the entire patio or fence, and then for years we will look at the withered, duller wood that is ruining our home. Of course, once we have made this mistake, we cannot do the magic, we have to do these tedious operations once, but if we choose Rubio outdoor products afterwards, we are guaranteed to save a lot of time and energy. In the case of new wood surfaces, it is worth considering the right surface treatment from the outset so that these woodwork can retain its healthy appearance for a long time and have as little time, energy and material maintenance as possible. We provide a little help with this with this blog post where we compare our outdoor wood oil and our outdoor wax cream wood paint. Revolutionary technology - innovation in surface treatment Both our outdoor products, Hybrid Wood Protector outdoor wood oil and Rubio WoodCream outdoor wood paint, are made with completely new and unparalleled technology that makes our products completely unique in the market for wood preservatives. The efficiency of the Hybrid Wood Protector, the outdoor version of our indoor wood oil, is due to the technology based on molecular bonds. Wood oil reacts with the wood fibers, does not penetrate deep into the wood and does not form a film on its surface. As a result, it will not bounce off over time when exposed to the weather. Its water-repellent effect and UV protection preserve the natural look and feel of wood for a long time. In addition to its strong water-repellent effect, Rubio WoodCream's special hydrophobic technology is also breathable, caring and self-cleaning. Thanks to the breathable effect, the wood can breathe even after the surface treatment, the fibers remain open, the wood retains its own regulation, so it can retain its natural feel and appearance. Thanks to its revolutionary wax-creamy texture, it is ideal for treating vertical wooden surfaces (fences, pergolas, wall coverings) as it can be easily applied without dripping or dripping. When should you choose outdoor wood oil? Hybrid Wood Protector is suitable for treating both vertical and horizontal wood surfaces and can be used for almost all types of wood. This actually means that whatever outdoor wood surface you want to color and wood protect, be it a complete terrace, garden furniture or fence, pergola, oiling can be a good choice. What to consider when making a decision: this wood oil will very well preserve the natural appearance and feel of the wood, the veining of the wood will look beautiful while its strong water repellent effect protects the wood from the elements. With a new, beautifully polished base material, these benefits are extremely useful for those who like to surround themselves with wood surfaces that have a natural color and feel. After proper preparation (sanding and cleaning), apply the oil in a single coat using a Pad, spray gun or even a polishing machine, depending on the surface, then wipe off the excess and allow it to dry. The extra advantage of the oil is that it can be used indoors, so with the residue we can even refresh our indoor furniture, or we can make extra wood decorations for the garden or terrace. It is extremely easy to maintain. When we see that the color of the surface is starting to fade or show signs of drying, we simply lubricate it with the oil of the color originally used, without having to sand it again. We have written more about the care and maintenance processes here. In which cases do we prefer wax cream wood paint? Rubio WoodCream was originally designed to meet a very special need that is still possible today with elements from the Gray Collection. This, in turn, meant a surface treatment agent that could give the appearance of natural aging of the wood, while the permeability of the wood under the topcoat allowed the wood to age at its own pace. Thanks to further improvements, this feature has been pushed into the background a bit, and the hydrophobic product is excellent for treating vertical outdoor wooden surfaces (fence, wall covering, pergola, etc.) with it. We really recommend using this product if you want to achieve a more covered coverage, we prefer the feeling of “painted” wood, but we also want to preserve a little naturalness from it. It is also excellent for providing surfaces that have previously been treated with some other surface protection agent, even varnish or glaze (after a thorough sanding, of course) with a good coverage, creative color effect and long-lasting surface protection. It is also easy to maintain and care for, by diluting the wood paint with the specially developed WoodCream Softener. This product can be applied in several layers, depending on how much you want to cover or show the grain of the wood. We wrote more about application and maintenance here. Comparison of outdoor wood oil and wood paint Whichever way you decide, you can be sure that with Rubio products, the end result of our wood surface treatment will be beautiful, natural and extremely durable. On the other hand, we can significantly reduce maintenance time intervals and costs. Whether you want to preserve and show the natural appearance and grain of the wood surfaces as much as possible, or to achieve a beautiful, even coverage, the appearance of painted wood (as can be seen in the color samples below) you can count on Rubio Monocoat outdoor products.

  • Facade, fence or pergola painting with Rubio WoodCream wax cream wood paint

Renovation and surface treatment of outdoor wooden surfaces often causes headaches and even headaches, even for professionals or those who like to do things around the house on their own. It is extremely important that the wooden surfaces exposed to the weather, which are also constantly in mind and perhaps have the greatest impact on the overall look of our yard and garden, remain as aesthetic and healthy as possible. If the line is still being renovated, it would be a good idea to get away without sanding, as quickly and easily as possible, with as little effort as possible. These considerations guided Rubio labs when they developed the Rubio WoodCream with special hydrophobic technology, which we have already presented in our previous article. Now let’s see how to apply this wax cream wood paint! Preparations - the essence of all woodwork In connection with the use of all our products, we recommend that we devote sufficient time and energy to the preparations. By this we mean the proper preparation of the wood surface: cleaning, sanding, dedusting, another thorough cleaning, but also our own preparation. Always read the safety and technical data sheets of the product you want to use, they are full of important information about the application. For WoodCream, for example, it is good to know that the ideal application temperature is between 10 ° C and 30 ° C. So it’s not worth standing for him in the middle of summer at 36 ° C on a scorching day. Or, if you want to treat wood surfaces that have not previously been treated with RMC products, remove any loose coatings or wood fibers (using an abrasive, steel, or brass brush) and then thoroughly remove the sanding powder from the surface as well. If there are any highly soiled, oily wood or mold stains on the surface to be treated, it is advisable to clean the surface with Rubio Monocoat Exterior Wood Cleaner and then rinse the surface with clean water. Once we have made sure that the wood surface to be treated is clean and dry, we can start the surface treatment. Applying outdoor wood paint? There is no problem with wax cream wood paint Surely in front of all of us is the picture of the suffering of our last fence painting: dripping, running off, streaked, uneven, the sidewalk and paving are both stained, drunk, not drunk enough, and we could even list how much of a fight it can be to get there. business". We can put an end to this Calvary with the revolutionary wax cream wood paint of Rubio. Prior to application, mix the WoodCream thoroughly (undiluted) and then apply evenly to the vertical wood surface with a brush suitable for water-based products in the direction of the wood fibers. Work in zones of 3 to 4 planks, preferably keeping the current surface moist. Try to spread the paint evenly with as long movements as possible. It sounds simple, and thanks to its creamy texture, it really is. It doesn’t flow, it doesn’t drip, you don’t have to rush it. In case you want to achieve a higher coverage, you can apply a second layer after at least 3 hours. Make sure that the second layer is applied evenly to avoid stains. Maintenance, renovation - nothing is easier! Treating new wood surfaces can even be quick and easy, with quite good results. But it is rare enough that maintenance and refurbishment do not require much effort either. That is why we are very proud that Rubio WoodCream is not only easy to use, but also provides long-lasting, strong wood protection for our outdoor wood surfaces with its breathability, water repellency, care and self-cleaning effect. However, if the surface needs to be updated and maintained after a sufficient period of time, it will not be a problem either. How do we know when the time has come? If the wood surface no longer repels enough water or we see that its color has faded, it is worth refreshing our wood surface. We briefly summarize how to perform proper maintenance operations. Of course, the first step here is to thoroughly clean the wood surface. Then mix Rubio WoodCream thoroughly and dilute with Rubio WoodCream Softener. Basically, we recommend a ratio of 9 parts Rubio WoodCream to 1 part Rubio WoodCream Softener, but this can be changed up to a 1: 1 ratio to achieve the desired result. You can use Transparent # 0 (undiluted) in the Gray Collection to create an uncolored effect. Although this version does not have a UV filter, it allows the wood to age naturally while protecting and water repellent the wood surface. Here are some tips for using Rubio WoodCream

  • Gray, bright or natural color, waterproof, self-cleaning outdoor wood paint: Rubio WoodCream

We often emphasize that proper wood surface treatment is vital if we want the results of our woodwork to remain not only long-lasting but also as aesthetic and healthy as possible. This is especially important for outdoor wooden structures that are exposed to weather conditions. But is it possible to achieve maximum wood protection by covering or preserving the natural look of the wood, either in gray or in one of the vibrant fashion colors? Yes, Rubio Woodcream is a wax-cream wood paint that is very easy to apply to vertical wood surfaces due to its creamy texture. But let's start at the beginning. What is wax cream wood paint? Rubio WoodCream is made with a unique hydrophobic technology. The wax-based cream not only helps with easy application, but also gives the wood and paint enough time to bond without covering the pores of the wood. Whether you apply WoodCream in one or more coats (depending on how much you want to mask the natural look of the wood), the unique properties of the product will not change. The combination of these properties makes it really special among wood surface treatment products. Wood paint with a caring, breathable, water-repellent and self-cleaning effect In addition to coloring and protecting wood surfaces, WoodCream penetrates deep into the wood to nourish it - all while keeping the surface breathable. You can do this without fillers. That’s why it doesn’t even start to peel, it doesn’t crack off like other surface treatments like varnishes, enamels and thick glazes, giving the wood a much longer life. By leaving the pores open, they retain their moisture and the wood’s own control is maintained - thus creating air permeability, which actually means that water is trapped back and air and steam are still permeable. This also preserves the natural feel and look of the wood. The hydrophobic nature of WoodCream makes wood surfaces water-repellent, creating a pearlescent effect that provides very lasting protection for the wood, even in extreme weather conditions. In addition, this pearlescent effect is responsible for the self-cleaning effect, since as water droplets slide off the surface of the wood, they also remove dirt particles, thus reducing the chances of microorganisms forming and preventing frost damage. Thanks to all this, the wax-cream wood paint allows the wood to age at its natural rate, but thanks to its water-repellent and breathable effect, it protects the wood from weather conditions, mold and moss, so it also significantly increases the maintenance time and life of wood surfaces. This video is a good illustration of the pearl effect: Gray, Scandinavian and traditional collection Once we’ve been convinced that WoodCream is truly providing exceptional, long-lasting and hearty wood protection for our outdoor wood surfaces, the question rightly arises: what does this look like in reality? This product is available in three color collections: Gray collection: contains different shades of gray according to current trends. It fits perfectly into modern environments, whether it can be used for fences or wooden houses, wooden coverings, pergolas, tessars, carports. Scandinavian collection: Scandinavian solutions have become fashionable in all areas, so the need for this direction soon arose when painting outdoor wooden surfaces. Swedish Red, Oslo Orce or Fjorde Blue can give a fun yet harmonious look to any garden concept you think of. Traditional collection: of course, in all our products we also think of those who prefer more traditional shades. This collection has been developed for them, in which we can find a unique and special look with colors that are close to the usual ones. In our next blog post, we’ll write about applying and maintaining Rubio WoodCream.

  • Do it yourself – renovating a wooden hammock in 3 steps

Or "do it yourself, sir, if you don’t have a servant", as the folk wisdom say. It fits into our June project in several ways. On the one hand, although we rarely have the opportunity to do our own woodwork, we are more than happy to show them to you. So we are opening this month with a hammock holder that we have renovated, which is made of teak wood, but unfortunately has been outdoors for a long time, almost 4 years, without tree protection. Accordingly, the initial condition was patinated, mossy, untreated wood. On the other hand, anyone can really do this work after us, the result will surely be beautiful and timeless, even if you want to renovate a worn, weathered wooden building like ours. Let's take a closer look at this project. Patinated, mossy, untreated wood surface - how did we get started? The first step, of course, was to thoroughly moisten our wood with water. Before it dried, we poured the Exterior Wood Cleaner on it. (If the surface is not so dirty, it can be diluted in half with water.) As mentioned earlier, this product always reliably helps to remove patina, moss and other contaminants formed on outdoor wood surfaces. It is very easy to use: pour it on the still wet surface either directly from the bottle or after dilution, and rub it hard over the surface with a brush. The cleanser foams well, don't be scared. :) Rinse with water and check the result. If necessary, we can perform this operation again. You can see the status of the preparation process here: Balról jobba: (1) Exterior Wood Cleaner bedörzsölve (2) Száradás közben (3) Megtisztított, megszáradt felület If you are working with wood that is in a terrible condition like ours, you may need minimal sanding. We just sanded the very rough, really rough parts a little by hand with an abrasive sponge. Otherwise, we recommend sanding outdoor wood surfaces up to a grain size of 100 if you are going to surface treat with our outdoor oil. It is very important not to polish too much, especially when dealing with exotic woods like teak. Excessive sanding prevents the proper absorption of the oil - ie long-lasting wood protection! (You can read more about sanding here.) After sanding, we dusted the surface. Surface treatment quickly, permanently and easily: Hybrid Wood Protector The hard work was actually done with the preparation. All that's left now is surface treatment - and now we're not kidding. With our outdoor wood oil, surface treatment is quick and easy, so it can really be that the most difficult part of the renovation work will be preparation. The first step in wood protection for us was to choose the color, as our outdoor wood oil colors and protects the wood surfaces in one layer at a time. We have seen that the color of HWP Royal is very good for the exotic type of teak, which, in addition to preserving the natural appearance of the wood, also gives it a little warmth and coziness. The selected box of wood oil was then mixed thoroughly and applied with a Pad. Allow to react for 10 minutes and then wipe the container with the same Pad without adding oil. The excess was wiped off with a clean cloth and with the joy of a job well done approx. we waited a day for it to dry. (Total hardening in 7 days.) • The surface treatment is complete. What's coming on now? - how can I clean the oiled surfaces?

We have already dealt with the preparation and surface treatment of indoor and outdoor wooden surfaces. So much of the work has already been done. According to us, the basis of long-lasting and aesthetic wooden surfaces and wooden constructions is to receive the appropriate preparation for the first time, and then the color and wood protection in one layer. For this you can choose from Rubio indoor wood oils, wood stains, and outdoor wood oils and wood paints. But what comes next? What can we do to keep the finished woodwork, in which we find so much joy, beautiful and healthy for a long time? In this weekly blog post, we present the cleaning and care products of the Rubio Moonocoat product family, with which you can easily and quickly maximize the life of your wood surfaces. Universal Soap – the easiest way From the very beginning, we want to dispel the misconception that cleaning and maintaining oiled wood surfaces would be a daunting and unrealistically costly hassle. Although an oil-treated surface (like any other surface) requires regular cleaning and care, the process is no more complicated than for other surfaces. The best example of this is the Universal Soap developed by Rubio Monocoat - as its name suggests, it is a universal soap concentrate that is perfect for regular cleaning of oiled wood surfaces. It is recommended to use it a maximum of 1 time per week, diluted with water: Pour 50-100 ml of Soap into 10 liters of water. It thoroughly removes stains, grease and dirt from the wood surface, while maintaining its matte, natural feel. It can be used on all kinds of oiled wood surfaces, so it can be used for mopping or cleaning furniture. It's really universal, isn't it? You can see the use of soap in the video below, and at the end we will get some useful tips about this product: Tip: A ready-to-use, hand-held version of Universal Soap is also available in our webshop: check out the Surface Care. Easy solution for difficult situations: special stain removers Do we know the feeling when a child gently places the cola box on a freshly finished floor or table? Or do we notice that some water has been dripping from the radiator in recent months until we look behind the couch or shelf? Hiss, what will happen now? Need to re-oil? To sand? Do not panic! We also know the solution to these situations. Three special stain removers have been developed in the Rubio laboratory: Grease Remover: grease stains, e.g. to remove olive oil, frying oil, chips, other oils, shoe marks, stains left with floor polish. Limespot Remover: in the case of scale and other alkaline stains, e.g. also for removing rust stains, heating water, white limescale deposits. Tannin Remover: stains on wood surfaces containing tannic acid, eg stains caused by beverage cans, flower pots or urine, stains left on the parquet after water damage, in case of precipitation of materials in the wood (for example in the case of doors, gates or facades). Exterior Soap – to clean exterior wood Exterior Soap - a two-phase soap with a strong cleansing and nourishing effect. We recommend it for cleaning outdoor wooden surfaces (eg terraces, wooden furniture) that have been treated with our outdoor wood oil, Hybrid Wood Protector. These wooden surfaces are usually exposed to the weather and our outdoor activities. Many times the work is done on the terrace, which we are reluctant to do in our interiors due to their additional dirt and ugliness - so these coverings and wooden furniture are often subjected to greater stress than our indoor wooden surfaces. This is why the specially developed outdoor soap, which is also available in a ready-to-use Ecospray version, is the ideal choice for cleaning it: In addition to cleaning, before renovation: a quick surface update with Refresh Eco Even with regular cleaning and care, the time may come when we feel that our oiled wood surfaces have started to wear out, are a little worn out, or are simply showing signs of drying out. In this case, we recommend Refresh Eco, which is available in both Exterior and Interior versions. It is a ready-to-use spray product that is very easy to use, even several times a year. Of course, we recommend this packaging for updating smaller surfaces, although like other Rubio products, Refresh Eco is extremely rich: 1 liter is enough to update ~ 100 m² of surface. It is important to note that this product is not pigmented. (To restore the color, you will need the oil with which they originally handled the wood surface, in the same color.) Universal Maintenance Oil - care oil for large-scale surface refreshes What makes our care oil really special is that it can be used not only to refresh any wood surface treated with Rubio Monocoat oil, but also to modernize wood surfaces treated with other oils (or even varnished). Also available in pure, white and black, depending on the color of the surface to be treated. Due to the slight pigmentation, the surface can be refreshed with this Universal Maintenance Oil without affecting the original overall effect. In addition to the upgrade, the care oil provides additional water resistance, extending maintenance time and surface life. For this reason, we especially recommend its use on heavily used surfaces, even in busy places such as the floors of hotels, office buildings or public buildings. Professional cleaning: durable wood protection, long-term investment Whatever solution we choose for the treatment of our indoor and outdoor wooden surfaces, we should clean and wash the wooden furniture, floors and wood coverings anyway, so the emphasis is more on doing this with the right cleaning and care products made especially for this purpose. Even if these products are a little more expensive, our durability pays off in the long run due to the durability of the surface treatment, as maintenance times can be extended much longer with proper care.

  • “What do they put in the ointment for that?” - Rubio Monocoat is a premium product. But is it reall

An important part of the budget plan for woodwork is the amount intended (or occasionally) for surface treatment. When determining it, it is worth considering that the chosen surface treatment affects both the aesthetic appearance and durability of the final result. Whether we make products for ourselves or to order, these two aspects are extremely important, so it is important to find a suitable surface treatment method in terms of value for money. Let’s see how Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C (indoor wood oil) and Hybrid Wood Protector (outdoor wood oil) perform in this regard. 0% VOC 0% VOC means that neither Oil Plus 2C nor Hybrid Wood Protector contains VOCs, i.e. volatile organic compounds. Thus, none of the products emits harmful substances at the place where the product is applied or where the finished wood is placed after application. This results in a very safe working and living environment without exposure to VOCs. Accelerator Oil Plus 2C is available as a two-component product. Component B is called a "setting accelerator" and is added in a 3: 1 ratio (oil: setting accelerator). Adding this B-component to the A-component, i.e. the oil, accelerates the drying and curing of Oil Plus 2C. Drying and curing are reduced to just five days (under favorable drying conditions) instead of two weeks, which is the normal drying time when the oil is used alone as a one-component surface treatment (e.g. for light-duty projects such as picture frames, etc.). The addition of component B provides more robust protection than Oil Plus 2c used indoors. Rubio always recommends that you use Components A and B together for best performance when using heavily used wood surfaces such as floors and tables. Two-component application is also recommended for wood surfaces exposed to moisture, such as kitchen cabinets, counters or wood surfaces in the bathroom. After application, the two-component oil mixture typically hardens to 80% after 48 hours under favorable drying and curing conditions. When Hybrid Wood Protector is used outdoors, the drying time on most deck or cladding surfaces is similar, and the final cure usually takes about seven days. It is important that the freshly treated wood surface is not exposed to moisture for 24 hours. Monocoat Both Oil Plus 2C and Hybrid Wood Protector are single-layer products, so they are not among the typical oils or varnishes we are familiar with. Rubio oils do not form a film on wood surfaces. They preserve the natural feel and feel of the wood. You may be wondering, “Do I need to use a separate wood preservative for this to ensure full wood protection? The answer is no. Our oils are based on a unique molecular bonding technology that requires no topcoat at all. Instead, these products provide excellent protection (in one step) on the wood surface than other oils and / or oily wood surfaces. Saving time and energy Thanks to the single-layer application process, significant time and energy / labor savings can be achieved compared to conventional oils or polyurethane coatings. Generally, 2-3 coats of these conventional surfactants need to be applied, which is significant in terms of amount of material, time and labor. Minimizes inconvenience and waiting Because Oil Plus 2C has only a minimal perceptible odor (some users have used the terms "non-unpleasant odor" or "like honey", "apple pepper odor"), it also contains 0% VOC, which is solvent-free, and quickly hardens. Thanks to these features, homeowners can move in furniture and use wooden floors as early as the third day after oiling. Of course, do not place carpets on oiled wooden floors until the bonding process is complete! Natural look and feel The most attractive feature of Oil Plus 2C is its very natural look and feel. The matte effect and smooth feel provide the perfect wood surface for those who prefer authentic surface treatment. Rubio Monocoat hard wax oils do not form a film when properly applied, unlike conventional surface treatments such as polyurethane, which have a plastic-like effect. There’s nothing wrong with that, but many people today prefer non-film wood surfaces and want to preserve the naturalness of wood in their home. It does not peel or bounce Rubio Monocoat does not peel or bounce off the surface of the wood, also due to the non-film-forming nature of the hard wax oil system. Construction coatings, such as varnishes or thick glazes, carry a risk, as the previously applied coating must be adhered to for each application. If something goes wrong, there will be a loss of adhesion, such as peeling or chipping. With Rubio Monocoat hard wax oil, this is not a problem, it should not happen even during future maintenance. Because the application of oil in all future maintenance only feeds the previously applied material without leaving any extra layers. Keep in mind that all excess oil must be removed from the surface to do this, so after applying and leaving a short reaction time, the surface must be wiped back. Plant based The oils used to formulate and manufacture Rubio Monocoat oils are based on natural ingredients. This means that the product is very safe to use for both users and the environment. In addition, Oil Plus 2C certifications allow it to be used with confidence for surfaces in direct contact with food or children's furniture. Reparable Rubio Monocoat hard wax oil products are very easy to repair if needed and can be done easily. Use the same sanding to make the surface to be repaired as it was originally, then clean it, apply oil of the same color as the original and rub over the surface. Finally, after a short reaction time, wipe the wood surface dry with a clean cloth and allow to dry. In most cases, that's all you need to fix it. Colours The great thing about Rubio Monocoat is that the interior wood oil is available in a wide range of colors, to exactly 44! All colors can be mixed together, so you can literally create thousands of shades if someone wants to have a unique color mix. Rubio Monocoat also offers a number of pre-treatment and pre-coloring products that further expand your creative color choices. Specific cost, yield Whatever the woodwork involved, cost-effective design is an important part of the process. The production of an average hardwood terrace can be calculated at a price of approximately HUF 25,000 / m², about 7-8% of which is the cost of surface treatment, which is a very interesting figure because in addition to the aesthetic value of the finished work, it also depends on the surface treatment. how durable, durable and healthy our wood surface will be - so how often and how much we will have to spend on maintenance, care, cleaning, and possibly renovation. It may seem like a good idea to get away with a cheaper solution at first, but will we still feel that way if it starts to crack off in a short time and we can re-sand it all before re-treating it? - We hope so now. The specific price of our Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C indoor wood oil is ~ 800-1150 HUF / m², while our outdoor wood oil, Hybrid Wood Protector, can be calculated at ~ 1350 HUF / m². Of course, the actual cost depends on the preparation of the wood surface, also on the method of application, so we usually say that 1 liter of indoor oil is applied by hand for approx. 30-50 m² is enough, as long as 1 liter of our outdoor oil can treat 20-30 m² of outdoor wood. It's amazing, isn't it? So is it worth choosing Rubio? We feel it is totally worth it. Considering these benefits, value for money is a very good decision.

  • "A little blue" - unique kitchen and bathroom furniture for a rustic wooden weekend house

Nowadays it is natural that in apartments with relatively small spaces, aesthetics and cosiness should not be given up in order to make practical use of space. We can see a lot of wonderful solutions on how to use a built-in shelving system, custom-designed furniture, unusual but beautiful solutions to make your new home as comfortable and showy as possible. In addition, we are pleased to see that the demand for natural raw materials has increased again, and we prefer to use solid wood furniture, which is somewhat more expensive, but much more durable and reliable, even in individual orders. An excellent example of this is our project of the month in May, called “A Little Blue”. Bg Art Design - beyond epoxy Surely many of you know the work of Gergő Bakos, ie Bg Art Design, especially his tables and cutting boards made of epoxy resin have been in the spotlight lately. But perhaps few of you know how well you treat other wood furniture. Gergő has been our dear customer for a long time, so we are pleased to present one of his exciting works, which has been given the fancy name “A Little Blue” - being relatively small, he also had to dream of a kitchen furniture and once you get started, you also designed a bathroom cabinet with a hand basin. Natural or colorful? This dilemma often causes headaches and sleepless nights for both the customer and the designer. If we already want real wood furniture in our home, it would be appropriate for them to retain their original, authentic look, to see the grain of the wood a little, but at least to feel the naturalness of the wood to the touch. However, we also like the colors more and more, we are more and more confident with the previously unimaginable shades - today a well-placed purple wall covering or red tile does not cause any outrage at all. 😊 How to choose between natural or colored? The good news is that with Rubio Monocoat products, there is no need at all to make this difficult decision. Our interiors can be colorful and natural at the same time, if we want to see the pattern of the wood, if not, we can cover it while maintaining the natural feel. Colorfully, naturally The furniture made by Bg Art Design perfectly illustrates this duality, forming a spectacular, homely and very cozy unit. The oak countertop of the kitchen furniture was treated with RMC Oil Plus 2C interior oil in Pure color. This makes the veining of the wood visible, the color fills the space with a truly close-to-nature warmth. On the other parts of the furniture, they were pre-treated with Precolor Easy stain, in a unique color, and then wood protection was provided with RMC Oil Plus 2C wood oil, also in a unique color mix - which ultimately shows a shade of blue. This is how this extremely harmonious look was created, of course in color. • Wood oil for exterior wood - how to use it?

Exterior wood oil application: simple, fast and efficient wood surface treatment In our previous blog post, you learned about the exterior oil in the Rubio Monocoat product line, Hybrid Wood Protector. In short, it is an exterior wood oil that colours and protects exterior wood surfaces in one single layer. Our coloured wood oils are UV-protected and give the wood a water-repellent effect, providing long-lasting and effective protection against the weather. They are available in a wide range of colours and the different colours can be combined to use exactly the shade that really suits your yard, garden or patio. Now let’s see how to work with this exterior wood oil, how easy and fast surface treatment can be when using Rubio Monocoat oil. Preparation Of course, we only recommend the use of Rubio Monocoat products for the preparation and treatment of the surface, as this product family has been developed in the same laboratory, so we can be sure that by supporting each other, we can achieve maximum surface protection with them. Whether you want to oil a new or previously treated wood surface, we strongly recommend that you clean it thoroughly first. The Exterior Wood Cleaner developed for this purpose is best suited for this purpose. This powerful outdoor surface cleaner also removes dirt, green discoloration and traces of previous surface treatment - if done with oil. If the wood surface has been painted before, thorough sanding is required. For outdoor wood oil on vertical surfaces, we recommend Sunprimer HWP as an optional primer, which can give your surface extra UV protection and a more intense color. It is advisable to apply it after thorough cleaning and before oiling. Stir the primer thoroughly before use and spread evenly on the surface with a cloth, brush, or spray gun. Oiling the wood surface Always mix the Hybrid Wood Protector thoroughly before use until a completely homogeneous material is obtained. If you need several bottles of oil, we recommend pouring the required amount into a suitable sized container and mixing thoroughly. If the optional primer has been used or you want the treated wood surface to be even more durable, mix 10% setting accelerator (B-Component) with the oil. If thoroughly mixed and our surface is dry after preparation, we can apply the oil with a flat brush or an RMC Brush Standard 220. Distribute the oil evenly on the wood surface and allow to set for 10 minutes. Then smooth the surface with the same brush without applying additional product. Allow the oil to act again for 5 minutes, then wipe off any excess oil with a cloth. Allow the surface to dry for 24 hours for approx. It takes 7 days. Useful tips and tricks for surface treatment Never dilute our outdoor wood oil. Do not work in direct sunlight or below 10 ° C. Do not cover the surface or place heavy objects on it until it is completely dry. Horizontal wood surfaces should be rubbed dry after treatment if rain is expected within 24 hours. Shawls and clothing soaked in the product may ignite spontaneously - so it is very important to immerse them in water after use before disposing of them. • Renovation and surface treatment of exterior wood - What kind of exterior oil should we use?

Rubio Monocoat's coloured (and also available in Pure) exterior wood oil, Hybrid Wood Protector, is an environmentally friendly product made from natural ingredients, 100% solvent-free, which additionally colours and protects exterior wooden structures. Whether you want to renovate, refresh or treat your exterior wood surfaces for the first time, our wood oil will be a good solution. Applicable to almost all types of wood, be it garden furniture, fences, swings, terraces, carports or flowerpots, sandboxes, pergolas. sparing you from frequent and laborious maintenance work. About traditional wood oils in a nutshell If you’ve ever used wood oil, you’ve certainly found that it has many benefits, such as being made from natural raw materials, giving a special, warm feel to the wood surface. (In some languages, very nice words have been formed for this phenomenon, the Germans say "anfeuern" - which we might translate to "fire" - if you think there is a more accurate, existing term for it, please comment!) However, there are some disadvantages to wood oil, which is why many prefer to give it up. It saturates the pores of the wood, which causes the wood surface to lose its proper protection over time, so it often needs to be maintained, is difficult to repair, and must always be applied in several layers. That's just enough to make you feel good about oiling. Yet we all see how much more natural and beautiful a surface treated with wood oil is than a glossy, work-like glazed or varnished one. The advantages of traditional wood oil combined with modern technology That’s why they started working on the problem in the Rubio lab, creating a modern technology that eliminates the disadvantages of traditional wood oil while retaining all of its beneficial properties. The effectiveness of Rubio wood oils is based on molecular bonding technology, which means that the wood oil molecules bind to the top layer of the wood. Due to this, the wood surface can absorb only as much oil as it really needs - so it is only possible to apply a single layer - thus significantly increasing the yield and economy. In addition, it follows that no overlaps or starting lines are formed during the application, but we get a nice, uniform surface (of course, after proper preparation - don't forget the importance of sanding!). Due to these properties, it can be repaired very easily and quickly, it is also very easy to maintain it with Refresh Eco Exterior Spray, and after a long time it is enough to re-oil it with the same product, even without sanding - depending on the exposure of the wood surface and weather conditions. In addition to the use of natural raw materials, one of the most important aspects of technological development has been to produce the product 100% solvent-free, ie without volatile organic compounds - so that no harmful substances are emitted and inhaled during use. So it is safe and environmentally friendly to use. We already know the technology, now let's take a closer look at our outdoor wood oil! New generation exterior wood oil: Rubio Monocoat Hybrid Wood Protector In short, our exterior wood oil is extremely rich, economical, durable, solvent-free, environmentally friendly, easy to repair and maintain, and preserves the natural feel and appearance of wood. And even more… Our coloured wood oil also has UV protection and a water-repellent effect, ensuring a longer service life for outdoor wood surfaces. You can choose from a wide range of colors: in addition to natural colors, we also have bohemian, fashionable shades. However, if you still can't find the color you envision, you can request a custom color mix, as the colors of the outdoor wood oil can be mixed together freely, so everyone can create the shade they dreamed of. (You can find our blog post on custom color mixing here.) Hybrid Wood Protector can be used on almost any type of wood, it can be used on both vertical and horizontal wood surfaces, so it can be used to paint outdoor wooden furniture, terraces, carports, fences, flower pots, any outdoor wood surface. In addition, like our indoor wood oil, it has a children’s toy safety certificate, so we can use it to oil children’s outdoor toys, log cabins, climbing frames, swings or sandboxes. - Thanks to the bright colors, in addition to the traditional wooden look, we can also create a fun, colorful playground - while also providing timeless wood protection. Extra color and even more durable wood surface with HWP Sunprimer primer and setting accelerator (B-Component) If you want to give your exterior wood surfaces a little extra colour and wood protection, we recommend the optional Sunprimer for Hybrid Wood Protector. This water-based primer reduces the effects of ultraviolet radiation, ensuring a longer life for the wood surface. We always recommend using the primer in the same color as the wood oil, so even more intense color effects can be achieved. You can see the differences here. As with our indoor wood oil (RMC Oil Plus 2C), it can be used as an outdoor setting accelerator (component B) in a 10% blend. It is especially recommended for the treatment of surfaces exposed to higher mechanical stress, such as the surface of floors, terrace coverings, tables to make them even more durable. And in our next blog post, Hybrid Wood Protector will be about applying exterior wood oil, it will be worth turning back.

  • Renovating the terrace professionally DIY - easier than you think!

Fortunately, wooden terraces continue to be popular with new builders, modern builders and those who authentically renovate old gates. Wood-paneled or solid wood terraces are not only aesthetic, they provide a pleasant environment for spending time outdoors - no matter how moody the weather. How can this be achieved so that it stays that way for a long time and as little time and energy as possible is consumed by the renovation and maintenance of the terrace? We will show you how to do the wood surface treatment of the terrace at home, simply, quickly and with a durable end result. Step One: Clean the Wood Surface: Exterior Wood Cleaner The first step in renovating a wooden surface is, of course, cleaning. If the terrace has been neglected for years, or if we have not provided adequate wood protection in the past, it is easy for the wood to be significantly worn, grayed out, and it has started to turn green here and there. In this case, too, there is no cause for concern. The surface can be cleaned with a steady sweep and Exterior Wood Cleaner. This outdoor wood surface is a preparation with a very strong cleaning effect, so it removes all the dirt from the surface extremely effectively. Before use, moisten the wood surface, even with a garden hose. Then pour a small amount on the surface and rub the entire surface with a brush or a strong broom. Exterior Wood Cleaner will foam thoroughly if you work well, remove this foam with the help of garden hose as well. Judging by the fact that thorough cleaning did not completely remove the marks, a quick sanding (you can read more about this in this post) can still fix the thing. It is worth noting that the polished surface will be lighter at the end of the surface treatment than the unpolished one, so be careful. When done, remove the dust from the patio, wash it thoroughly with water, then allow it to dry completely, then oiling may come. Step Two: Wood surface treatment: Hybrid Wood Protector Once the wood surface of the terrace is completely dry, we can start applying the wood oil. Work with small amounts because Hybrid Wood Protector outdoor wood oil is much more generous than average oils, so it is usually sufficient for a much larger surface area than you would expect from it. It can be applied with a Pad, a spray gun or even a cloth. Thanks to its molecular bonding technology, as with our indoor wood oil, there are no overlaps, leaving no streaks or starting lines. After applying the outdoor wood oil, allow to set for 10 minutes, react, and then use a clean cloth to remove excess oil from the wood surface. Pro-Tip: If you want your patio to be even more durable with maximum abrasion resistance, mix 10% B-Component with it. Make sure you always make only as much mixture as you can use within 4 hours. What makes Rubio Monocoat exterior wood oil so special? Just like the efficiency of our indoor wood oil, the outdoor Hybrid Wood Protector is based on molecular bonding technology. From the point of view of our terrace, this is important because in this way our wood oil only binds to the top layer of the wood, so it no longer seeps into the deeper layers of the wood, but exerts its effect where it is really needed, thus preserving the natural appearance of the wood. In addition, it is enough to apply it in a single layer, without overlapping, without starting lines and stains. As a result, it is easy to repair and very easy to renovate, as it is enough to smear it with the same product we originally used to treat the wood surface. Terrace cleaning and maintenance If we treat wood surfaces with Rubio Monocoat exterior products, it is important that we also clean them regularly with our product range. The easiest solution for this is our Universal Soap. This concentrate is very economical and can be used to clean both indoor and outdoor oiled wood surfaces. Of course, we also recommend an annual inspection of the terraces, however, depending on the weather conditions, it may not be necessary to renovate the wood surface treatment every year. With regular cleaning and occasional re-oiling (without sanding!) We can enjoy the natural beauty and good condition of our terrace for a long time and without any problems. We hope you will enjoy renovating your patio, but if you still need a little inspiration, here’s a selection of Rubio Monocoat-treated patios: If you have any questions about our products or wood surface treatment, you may want to ask for advice on which product would be right for your woodwork, contact us by email: shop@rubioshop.hu and we will be happy to help!
